Who We Are
A constituent school of the College of Health and Allied Sciences
The School of Nursing and Midwifery is one of the leading centres for nursing and midwifery education in Ghana, training undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students who go on to serve in hospitals, community health posts, research institutions and health policy spaces across the country and beyond.
Our academic programme is built on a foundation of strong biomedical science, structured clinical placement and a deliberate emphasis on ethics, professionalism and patient-centred care — values we consider as important to nursing practice as clinical skill itself.

History
More than two decades of training nurses and midwives for Ghana's health system.
- 2014
School established
It was a Department for some years under the School of Biological Sciences before it was founded under the University of Cape Coast to address a national shortage of degree-trained nurses and midwives.
- 2008
First graduating class
The School produces its first cohort of BSc Nursing graduates, many of whom go on to lead nursing departments across Ghana.
- 2012
Midwifery programme launched
BSc Midwifery is introduced in response to national maternal health priorities, with clinical placements established across regional hospitals.
- 2016
Postgraduate programmes begin
MN, MPhil and MSc programmes are launched, enabling registered nurses and midwives to pursue advanced clinical and research training.
- Upcoming
Doctoral programme starting soon
The School will begin admitting PhD candidates, becoming one of few institutions in the country offering doctoral training in nursing science.

A growing national presence
With thousands of alumni and an expanding clinical partner network, the School continues to shape nursing and midwifery education and practice in Ghana.

All clinical programmes are accredited by the NMC, the statutory body regulating nursing and midwifery education and practice in Ghana.
Ghana Tertiary Education Commission
Our academic programmes are accredited by GTEC, ensuring they meet national standards for higher education quality.
University of Cape Coast Academic Board
As a constituent school, our curriculum and assessment standards are governed by the University's Academic Board.
West African College of Nursing
We maintain active membership and collaboration with the WACN on regional standards for nursing education.
